How much did shoppers spend at the Prime Early Access sale?

The average order size during the Prime Early Access sale was $46.68, down from $60.29 on Prime Day 2022. Over half (56%) of households shopping the sale placed 2+ separate orders, bringing the average household spend to roughly $110.45.

 

What did people buy from the Prime Early Access sale?

The top items purchased during the Prime Early Access sale were Amazon Gift Cards, Amazon Photos Projects, and Melissa & Doug branded toys. Simple Joys by Carter's apparel and Echo Dot 3rd generations rounded out the top five items, based on a sample of over 72,000 observed items purchased during the sale. The top categories consumers say they purchased are household essentials, health & beauty, apparel & shoes and toys & games. 15% of shoppers say they purchased larger ticket items they’d only buy on sale, while 23% got everyday goods they'd be buying anyways.

How did the Prime Early Access sale impact holiday shopping?

29% of Prime Early Access shoppers used the sale to purchase holiday gifts. Of those who purchased gifts, 69% say they completed less than half of their holiday shopping, and 95% say they’re likely to shop on Amazon again for additional holiday items in the next three months. 

Did the Prime Early Access sale benefit other brands and retailers?

Amazon brands were key players in select Prime Early Access categories, particularly smart home devices, household essentials and consumer electronics. 48% of Prime Early Access shoppers only considered Amazon for their purchases, while 52% considered other retailers. The majority of Prime Early Access shoppers (60%) only shopped at Amazon during the two-day sale period, but 24% made a purchase at another retailer or website, as well.

How did inflation impact the Prime Early Access sale?

Of those who shopped both the Prime Early Access sale and Prime Day 2022 back in July, 36% spent more at the Early Access event while 64% spent the same or less. Inflation also impacted 79% of Prime Early Access shoppers– 29% say they waited for the sale to purchase a specific item at a discounted price, while 26% passed on a good deal because it wasn't a necessity. Inflation also drove 13% of individuals to look at prices outside of Amazon before buying.
