Core Use Case: Category Leakage and Attachment

The Challenge:

A leading retailer’s Lawn & Garden team saw Outdoor Pest performance softening and needed to understand where share was being lost. They wanted clarity on which retailers were gaining or losing share versus the leading retailer, which merchandise subdivisions had the most upside, which consumer segments were shopping at competitors, and which brands or items mattered most to those shoppers.

How Numerator Addressed It:

We conducted a deep dive analysis to shift the conversation from general share loss to shopper-driven opportunity, including share shifts and channel contribution trends, Leakage Tree analysis to identify where shoppers were defecting, basket assortment and attachment rate opportunities, and consumer segment profiling to understand who was leaving and why.

The Impact:

We found one key competitor was uniquely retaining shoppers as closure rates declined. More importantly, we quantified $3.1M in annual leakage opportunity and $44.3M in attachment opportunity.
