2023 HOLIDAY CELEBRATION INTENTIONS
Which holidays will consumers celebrate in 2023?
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother’s Day, and Independence Day will be the most widely celebrated holidays this year, with nine-in-ten US consumers planning to celebrate each. Easter, Father’s Day, New Year’s Eve and Memorial Day will also be popular, celebrated by at least three-in-four US consumers.

What will consumers buy for 2023 holiday celebrations?
Nearly all consumers say they’ll buy various items for their holiday celebrations this year. Food and alcohol are the top two products shoppers plan to purchase across holidays, and gifts and candy are popular choices for select holidays, as well.


TOP CHANNELS FOR 2022 HOLIDAY SHOPPING
Grocery & Mass retailers are the top two locations consumers plan to shop for all major holidays, with food-focused holidays leaning grocery and gift-focused holidays leaning mass. Club retailers, bars & restaurants, and specialty retailers such as craft and costume stores round out the top five places consumers intend to purchase holiday goods.

2023 HOLIDAY SPENDING
How much will shoppers spend on their 2023 holiday celebrations?
Most holiday shoppers say they’ll spend over $50 on their celebrations. Thanksgiving and Christmas are the holidays with the highest expected spending, with 70% of shoppers planning to spend $100+ on Christmas.
ECONOMIC IMPACT ON 2023 HOLIDAY SHOPPING

How will inflation and a potential recession affect 2023 holiday shopping?
Over half of consumers expect inflation or a potential economic slowdown to impact their 2023 holiday celebrations and shopping. To save money, two-thirds of shoppers say they’ll buy holiday items on sale, and half will buy fewer items overall.
